About CAMMTB
CAMMTB is a group of mixed ability off-road cyclists who meet at 7:30pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for a social ride. Rides start from Brookside, Cambridge (opposite Japas, CB2 1HN).
Each run is to a different pub, which are published on this site in advance. There are some longer rides in the summer, whilst in the winter we keep closer to Cambridge.
Special events
People in the group organise special events as they are inclined. Past events have included:
- Train Out Bike Back — as the regular evening ride
- Friends and family ride — a shortish ride in the summer
- Fast and long — regular ride as 2 groups, pandering to those who want to stretch their legs
- Weekend away
- Charity endurance ride
- Family BBQ
The Christmas Party is always popular.
How it works
Decisions are taken by those present. Regular riders volunteer for the few admin tasks (e.g. compiling the runs list) and organising special events. There is no committee, leader or fees.
The group riding ethos is strong. On one hand riders are expected to ride a suitable bicycle that is properly maintained, and be appropriately attired (inc. helmet). On the other hand the group will wait for slower riders, and in the event of a breakdown will ensure everyone gets home safely.
New riders
New riders are welcome on any ride. Check the Runs List on the home page — very occasionally rides do not start at Brookside. You can just turn up.
Generally it's better to join the The Forum group in advance, to be sure that someone is riding and to ask any questions you might have. It is rare for no-one to turn up on a Thursday, unless the weather is foul. Some years Tuesdays have regular riders, other years they are sparsely attended.
